Covered with fog, the home of clouds, what‘s it? Oh it is Meghalaya, a destination with its extremely beautiful locations, is ready to snooth the stressfull minds of travellers. Meghalaya is place where when you visit you forget all the tension of your hectic life in other word Meghalaya is the heaven existing on earth where various dreams of visitors come true.

A perfect destination to be visited by newly wed couples who all can enjoy the most memorable time of their life which never comes again in their whole lifetime. During the monsoon season the palce looks amazing with its magnificent locations, tropic forest vallyeys lies in of Garo Hills and with its temperate pine forests of Jaintia and Khasi hills.

Meghalaya, wide spread state is situated in North-Eastern part of India. it is surrounded by Assam to the north & the plains of Bangladesh. The covered area by the state is around 22,429 sq. kms with the mass population of 78.5 per sq. km.

The name of the state ‘Meghalaya’ gives the perfect description about the climate of the state which states a heavy rain to its forests and hills.
The name Meghalaya (megh + Alaya) means a home of clouds and these mountains and hills are responsible for the climate changes and force rainy clouds (comes from Bay of Bengal) to bring the heavy rain in the state.


The higher ranges of both the hills Jaintia/ Khasi enjoy cool and healthy temperature while Garo hill has tropical vegetation. In 1972 Meghalaya achieved its full –fledged Statehood and became 21st State of Indian Union. Garo, Khasi and Jaintia are the three major tribes of Meghalaya. The Jaintias and Khasis mainly occupy the vast districts lies in Eastern Meghalaya and Garo Hills are acquired by the Garos who are known as the Achiks. Khasis are the strong follower of the religion and believe that religion is gifted by the god to mankind not developed by man. The Garos and Khasis, both of them believe in same god called ‘Rabuga’ who is considered as the only supreme power and chief commander of this world.many members belongs from Garo, Khasi and Jaintia accepted Christianity which came in existence in middle of 19th century. Thus, now days you can see many churches, mosques, gurudwaras, monastries and temples in Meghalaya. The people of this wonderful state are very helpful, hospitable, peaceful, and social in nature which reflects in their dance, music and sports.

The Physiology of Meghalaya
Meghalaya (south of Assam), located in north eastern region of India; in between the Brahmaputra valley of the north side and Bangladesh in south. Moreover one of the bewitching states of India, Meghalaya geographically considered as ‘Meghalaya Plateau’. The lamd comprises of Khasi Hills, Garo Hills, and Jaintia hills. Some of the part of this land is covered with the alluvium deposited by Brahmaputra and Ganga, the snaky rivers of India.

Hostory of Meghalaya:  
The history of Meghalaya belongs to different legends, findings and beliefs related with Garos, Khasis and Jaintias. As history tells that Khasis were the first immigrants who evolved their way from northern Myanmar to their place Khasi and established a new center over there. Khasis speak Mon-khmer speeches which are spoken in South-East part of Asia.


The Garo, Jaintia and Khasi, each of them had their own kingdoms but in 19th century three of them came under the rule of British management. Finally, in the year 1835 British rulers integrated the state of Meghalaya into Assam. In 1947Meghalaya became autonomous state within the Assam. But the people of this land were not ready to accept this and started a constitutional and peaceful movement for independence. The Assam introduced Assamese as the language of state which was unknown language for tribes of Meghalaya that brought a turning point in the freedom struggle of Meghalaya. In 1972 Meghalaya became full-fledged state of the Republic of India.
