Flavorus Punjabi Cuisine & Recipe

"Twinkle twinkle amb da achaar, khaao-piyo rajjke te maaro dakaar."
Hi, dear readers! Whilst brainstorming for a compelling topic for you to read, our gut began growling. It became hard to find the delicious meals so we approached our 'live-wires', ate a finger-licking good meal, and came up with an interesting topic for y'all.

Oops! We apologize for not introducing the 'live-wires'. They are the Punjabis, the lively people that believe in a lot of hustle & bustle that includes the bult (Enfield bullet), bhangra, botlan (shhh, it's booze), and their utterly succulent cuisine.

The Punjabi cuisine is something in the world that gives you home like a feel even if you're away from your home. Stuffed with a lot and lot of affection more than the ingredients, each and every dish of a Punjabi platter is palatable. Whether vegetarian or non-vegetarian, there's something for all to munch. So, readers, get ready to know some famous traditional dishes directly from 'The Land of Five Rivers' Punjab.

Butter Chicken

And that's so damn true that no Punjabi would ever deny to the delicious butter chicken. Also known by the name of Murgh Makhni, butter chicken is the widely savored Punjabi dish all over the world now (kudos to Punjabis). Invented by K.L Jaggi, this dish is prepared by marinating the chicken and mixing it with cream and a miscellany of spices and then frying it. This finger-licking dish has an aroma that seduces the taste buds and if you don't believe, ask any of your Punjabi friends.

Shakkar para

Usually accompanied with the tea, Shakkar Para is a delicious Punjabi food that is widely distributed as bhaji on the occasion of weddings. It is a small & sweet ball of flour coated with flour that is prepared by frying it in oil. Not only as a tea snack, it can be munched at any time when you have that nikki jehi bhukkh (small hunger).

Lassi

He who says that alcohol can put anyone to sleep never drank a glass full of lassi. Prepared with yogurt, milk, and water, lassi is the trademark beverage and an essential part of the Punjabi cuisine. It is a beverage that is taken usually with the breakfast or lunch and is served in various flavors like the mango, strawberry, banana etc. Savoring lassi malai maarke is something that everyone adores.

Chole-Bhature

Though you might term them as the most-loved street food in India, people have a soft corner for chole-bhature in their tummies, sorry, we mean hearts. No formal introduction is required for this mouth-watering dish that never fails to lure the heart of foodies. This inseparable couple is eaten on an extensive scale and we bet on that no one can eat just one! Make sure that you relish the flavor of this yummylicious staple Punjabi diet soon!

Parantha

Parantha is one of the Popular Punjabi Cuisine

"You know you're a true Punjabi when various types of paranthas are included in your diet." This internet meme stands so true in this case. Whether it's aaloo parantha, gobhi parantha, anda parantha, paneer parantha etc., a Punjabi meal remains incomplete without munching the paranthas with amb da achaar or lassi. This deadly combination is enough to make a hulk snore for a couple of hours! And yes, the taste of the paranthas served at the roadside dhabas is equally sumptuous as the ones prepared at home.

Amritsari Fish

Let's call it Ambarsari Fish to get that Punjabi feel. So, this scrumptious dish called Amritsari Fish is another Non-Vegetarian delicacy that turns off the denial mode. If you want to shift your flavor from murgh makhni then no other dish than Ambarsari Fish is appropriate for you. The batter of this Punjabi delicacy is fried with the marinated fish and mixed with the lip-smacking spices. The taste of Ambarsari fish will surely make you drool over it.

Dal Makhani

Ladies & gentlemen, please rise (and control yourselves) as we present before you the appetizing Dal Makhni. Best paired with rice and naan, dal makhni is the 'Queen of Dals' that rules the heart of everyone. It is an opulent mixture of black lentils and red kidney beans prepared in the gravy cooked on a low flame in order to make it thicker. Once its aroma enters the nostrils, anyone can get spellbound.

Paneer Tikka

Paneer Tikka is one of the toothsome Punjabi dishes that hold a special place in the Punjabi platter. Its absence can be felt if it is not included in the party snacks. It is prepared out of marinated paneer grilled in tandoor with capsicum, onion, and tomatoes. Paneer Tikka is a delicious vegetarian appetizer and tastes best when served with mint chutney.

Punjabi Pakoda Kadhi

No one can forget the tangy flavor of the Punjabi Pakoda Kadhi. It is another marvel of the Punjabi cuisine which is eaten widely. It is savored with its spouse, rice, together known as kadhi-chawal, a pair that has taken vows to stay together forever. Punjabi Kadhi is prepared by mixing gram flour, curd, water, and spices cooked on a low flame. Pakodas are made by mixing the same batter and deep frying it in oil.

Rajma Chawal

And now, the biggest secret of happiness will be revealed. The best way to bring a Cheshire Cat smile on somebody's face is by serving them with a plate of Rajma Chawal! Just by hearing the name of Rajma Chawal, people go bananas because this diet rich in carbs and proteins is simply undeniable. The luscious intimacy of the red kidney beans with rice is a huge weakness of many foodies. Even we cannot resist on seeing rajma chawal in front us! High-five!

Sarson Ka Saag

How can we miss Sarson Da Saag, paaji? A lot of nutrition comes from this delectable Punjabi dish. A winter delight, Sarson Ka Saag is a traditional Punjabi food that is prepared using the mustard leaves that are sometimes mixed with spinach, radish leaves or bathua. The reason for it being eaten in winters is that it has the essential nutrients that keep the body warm.

Makke Ki Roti

The other half of Sarson Ka Saag is none other than Makke Ki Roti (that appears like a thepla on steroids). The companionship of Makke Ki Roti & Sarson Ka Saag is something that you cannot describe in words. Cooked using the maize flour, it is a dish savored in each Punjabi household accompanied by lassi. Whoa! That's what you call a Pendu meal.

Pinni

This little sweet dish is all set to stuff you. Prepared in desi ghee using khoya, wheat flour, gram flour, and semolina, Pinni never disappoints anybody. The mushiness of this sweetmeat-cum-nutritional supplement (as said by Bebe) is savored largely on all major events and functions including the big fat Punjabi weddings! You'll fall in love with Pinni after crunching its first bite.

First of all, stop licking your lips again & again. We know that the above-listed dishes are indeed lip-smacking and have evoked the spark of hunger. Whichever dish brought nikka jeha Niagara Falls in your mouth, go and devour it sheti!
