St. Mark's Coptic Cathedral, Alexandria, the historical abode of all the Popes of Alexandria has a specific significance to it. It is the most important church of the Coptic Christians of Alexandria. The relic of St. Mark used to be in the church before it was stolen by the Venetians in 828. The present day St. Mark's Coptic Cathedral is a piece of recent construction but is claimed to be standing on the ground where the original church was found by St. Mark himself.
