The Wan Sanctuary is also known as Chilkahrada Wild Life Sanctuary and is situated in the district of Amravati. The sanctuary is located at an altitude of around 1118m and abounds in natural vegetation cover. The sanctuary comprises of various beautiful waterfalls and lakes, which makes the ambience more beautiful. The sanctuary has a very rich mythical past. It is believed that Bheema (the Pandava) killed the villain Prince Keechaka and threw his body in to this valley. Thus the name Chilkahrada evolved from the prince name Keechaka.
The ideal time for visiting the place is between the months of June-October. Fauna :The sanctuary offers shelter to various species of animals like Sambhar, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Wild Dogs, Panther and many more.
How to reach! Air : The closest airport is located at Nagpur (325kms). Rail : The closest railway station is situated at Akola (80kms). Road- The sanctuary is located at a distance of only 45kms from Akot, which is easily accessible by road.
