Located in Bardhaman, Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary is the most popular tourist attraction in West Bengal. The area that comes under Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary was declared as a reserved forest in 1960. After that, the sanctuary was named Deer Park due to its number of deer. Again the park was renamed with the old one in the year 1978. In Mouza Baburbag, Bardhaman City, Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary is sprawled over a small area of 35.36 Acre. There is a mini-zoo developed inside the Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary called Ramnabagan Mini Zoo. This zoo comes under the control of Divisional Forest Officer, Bardhaman Division. The main objective of the zoo is to conserve the representative wild animals of the Gangetic plains and also aware the general public on sustainable conservation of endangered wild fauna.
Major Attractions Of Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary:
• In 1978, the area under Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary was converted into a deer park with the introduction of six spotted deer (chital). Since the very beginning, Chital and barking deer were a part of the sanctuary. But right now when you visit here, you will see the number of spotted deer to be quite high.
• This beautiful sanctuary is predominant with Sal and teak forests. You can find myriad of dumur (cluster fig) trees, label (wood-apple) trees, jam (Java plum or Malabar plum) trees and many more. With the huge canopies of trees, this place is a perfect place to recoil into the lap of nature.
• Coming to the wild animals, you can spot sloth bears, leopards, peafowls, rosy pelicans, adjutant stork, saltwater crocodiles, and blackbuck. You can also see the owls, parakeets, cuckoos, stocks, snakes, mongooses, spotted doves and martins, which are kept in the mini zoo area. Common langurs are also found abundantly in the zoo area.

Most of the animals found in this sanctuary generally get to see mostly during monsoon season. So, monsoon is a preferable time to visit here and to see the wildlife species inside the park.
How To Reach Here:
The best way to reach this sanctuary is from Bardhaman by road or by train. Bardhaman railway station is at a distance of 4 km from the sanctuary. There are a number of buses available from Bardhaman, which leaves at regular interval and take approximately one and half hour to reach the place. The place is located very near to G.T Road i.e. N.H.-2 on Burdwan-Durgapur stretch. It is well connected with G.T Road by Sukumar Sen Road that meets G.T Road at Golapbag from where visitors can easily get local bus or taxi to reach the sanctuary.
Additional Information For The Visitors:
If you want to visit this sanctuary in fewer crowds then make sure that reach here at 10:00 am which is the entry time of the wildlife sanctuary and at that time crowd is less and you need not wait in the long queue for the tickets. The closing time of the park is 6:00 pm. The entry fee is very nominal here. One has to pay Rs. 3 per head.
