Barmer is a district located in the Indian state of Rajasthan. As per its area, it is the third largest district in Rajasthan and fifth largest district in India. In the previous times, it was known by the name of Mallani as it was named after Rawal Mallinath. The present day name of the district is named after the founder ruler Bar Rao Parmar.
Barmer sprawls across 28,300 sq. km. and forms a major part of Thar Desert. It shares its boundaries with Jaisalmer in North, Jalor in South, Pali in East and Pakistan in West. The river Luni flows through the district of Barmer and is a major source of water. The climate of Barmer is semi-arid in nature. It encounters searing summers and with an average temperature of 42°C and mild winters with an average temperature of 24°C during the winters.
