Kapileshwar Temple is an ancient Hindu temple in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is situated in the city of Belgaum and is known by the name of ‘Dakshina Kashi’. The reason for it being called as Dakshina Kashi is the presence of the self-manifested Shivalinga. It is also said that a pilgrimage made to the 12 pious Jyotirlingas scattered all over the country doesn’t get completed until the devotees visit Kapileshwar Temple.
It Is Known For:-
1) The first offering to the self-manifested Shivalinga was made by the Sage Kapila and thus, this temple bears the name Kapileshwara
2) It is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is said to exist from a prolonged era
3) The temple interiors are adorned with the depictions from the texts like Linga Purana, Bhagavatam, and Gajendra Moksham
4) The prime sanctum of this temple houses the self-manifested Shivalinga that is worshiped thrice a day
5) Idols of the other Hindu religious figurines like Lord Ganesh, Lord Hanuman, Lord Krishna, Lord Ram etc. are installed in the shrine premises
6) The festival of Maha Shivaratri is observed here on a grand scale
Best Time To Visit:-
Kapileshwar Temple is a key attraction in Belgaum and is visited by umpteen devotees. Though it is visited on a daily basis, the best days to mark the attendance in the temple are all Mondays and the sacred day of Maha Shivaratri.
