The Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary is located in Bharatpur, in an Indian state of Rajasthan. It is just 176 Kms away from the capital city, Delhi, and is easily accessible by the visitors. Keoladeo was declared 1956 as a Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary 1956 a national park in 1981.
The Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary is more commonly known as the Bhartapur Bird Sanctuary. Keoladeo has a lake spread over an area of 28.73 kms, this was created by the Maharaja of Bgaratpurin the 19th century. Since then this lake is the home for local as well the migratory birds that come across the sea and spent some months here.The birds fluttering and playing in the lake is a delight for the bird watcher. Over 300 species of birds are found here. A quiet ride by boat in the early hours of the morning is also an unforgettable experience. Every year Bharatpur awaits the arrival of the Siberian cranes These beautiful birds with their distinctive red beaks and facial patches, fly over 6400 km from their summer retreats in Siberia. Besides the Siberian crane the other birds seen here are Coot Snipes, Spanish Sparrow, Red Crested Porhard, Rosy Pelican and Flamingo.
August-November for resident breeding birds and November-March for migrant birds. The wildlife comprises of Golden Jackal, Striped Hyaena, Fishing Cat, Jungle Cat, Nilgai, Sambar, Blackbuck and wild Boar.
