Khodiyalma Mandir aka Khodiyar Mandir is acknowledged among one of the famous pilgrim cum tourist sites in Gujarat. It is a temple of Goddess Khodiyalma and is located near Khodiyar Lake in the city of Bhavnagar. This temple is a huge crowd puller and is visited on a huge scale by numerous devotees of Khodiyalma from different parts of Gujarat.
Why Is It Famous?
Khodiyalma Mandir has a great religious significance in Bhavnagar. According to the folklore, this temple stands on the exact spot where Khodiyalma saved the life of her brother by bringing elixir from Naag Lok. While bringing back, she hurt her foot on the rocks and was accompanied by a crocodile. She limped on her way to deliver the elixir and save her brother’s life.
She got her name Khodiyalma by one of her sisters because she was limping. Today, she is worshiped on a huge scale by the residents of Bhavnagar. She is the family deity of the castes like Charan, Patidar, Chudasma etc.
