Chennai, as a tourist destination has something for everyone. The city has rich natural beauty and historical places and religious centres.
Beaches: The beaches of Chennai are beautiful but not suitable for swimming due to the under currents along the shore line. The main beaches are marina Beach, Edward Elliot's Beach, Breezy Beach and Covelong.
Religious: There are several places of worship for Hindus, Muslims and Christians. Some of the prominent ones are Basilica of the National Shrine of St.Thomas, St. Mary's Church, Big Mosque, Kapaleeswarar Temple and Sri Ramakrishna Math- Universal Temple.
Monuments: Fort St. George, located on the shore of Bay of Bengal, was the place around which Chennai was established.
Parks: Chennai has some beautiful parks where tourists can visit. These are Arinjar Anna Zoological Park, Guindy National Park, Guindy Snake Park and Pallikaranai wetland.
Museums and Art Galleries: Government Museum, National Art Gallery and Birla Planetarium are some places for people interested in history and arts.
