When it comes to the history of Sati Anusuya, it was said that Anusuya was a highly caring and loving wife of Rishi Atri. Her love and loyalty impressed sage Narad so much that he lavished her with huge praises. And, these praises left the wives of Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheswar full of jealousy. The wives of these lords designed a plan to harm Anusuya and asked their husbands to go and disrupt her pureness.
And, as instructed by their wives, Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheswar went to Anusuya and asked her to give them food without putting on her clothes. When Anusuya heard this strange wish of offering food without her robes, she came up with an idea. She sprinkled some drops of water on all three Lords and turned them into babies. The wives of all these three Lords were waiting impatiently about the outcome of their instruction. When they arrived and discovered what had transpired between the Lords and Anusuya, they felt bad for harboring such ill thoughts against Sati Anusuya.
All these three Lords then had born to Anusuya as her sons by the name Soma, Durvas, and Dattatreya.
According to historians, another story also became popular that was associated with Anusuya. Chitrakoot failed to get any rains for many years. And, it led to a severe famine. In order to combat the situation, Sati Anusuya decided to pray and it was the immense power of her strong prayers that river Mandakini arrived on earth. The arrival of River Mandakini led to beautiful changes everywhere in the region and created greenery all around. The presence of River Mandakini brought great relief to humans and animals.
According to history experts, once Lord Ram and Sita believed to have visited Sati Anusuya. During their meeting, Sati Anusuya mentioned Sita the significance of loyalty to one’s husband.
