Maithon Dam is one of the major dams in the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, India. It was officially opened in the year 1957 and its foundation stone was laid by the first prime minister of India i.e. Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru. The dam lies on the banks of river Barakar at the Jharkhand and West Bengal border. In the close vicinity of Maithon Dam lies a renowned Hindu temple i.e. Kalyaneshwari temple, which is dedicated to goddess Durga.
What it is famous for:-
1) Kalyaneshwari temple is a religious place near the dam, which is situated within a 6km radius of Maithon dam
2) Scenic view of the dam, which can be best experienced at the dawn as well as the sunset
3) Maithon dam site also serves as a great picnic spot, as people from nearby areas gather here to spend quality time in the serene environment
Best time to visit:-
One shall ideally come to the Dhanbad district during the months starting from October to March, in which the weather remains cool and pleasant. The weather during the rest of months witnesses hotness and rains.
