Ganga Maiya Temple is an ancient and historic temple in Durg, Chhattisgarh. It enshrines Goddess Ganga, the holy river goddess worshiped in India. Why Is It Famous?
There are different reasons that make Ganga Maiya Temple different from other temples. This historic temple stands in the form of a small hut. According to the legend, a fisherman caught an idol of Goddess Ganga and immersed it back into the waters. It was caught in the fishing net on the same day and was immersed again. Goddess Ganga appeared in the dreams of the fisherman and told him to construct her temple.
He along with other fishermen constructed a temple and installed the idol in it. Till date, this temple of Goddess Ganga is active and hundreds of pilgrims visit it.

There is no specific time for visiting Ganga Maiya Temple. The devotees and travelers are spotted here on a daily basis offering the respects to the Goddess. Navaratri is a sacred time for visiting the temple.

Ganga Ekadashi is celebrated here with a great enthusiasm. The locals perform the rituals and distribute the Prasad to everyone. The fishermen community attends it on a huge scale.
