Subhash Park is a wonderful public park that is located in the heart of Ernakulam city. Towards the western side, Subhash Park overlooks the backwaters of Cochin Harbor and Vembanad Lake. Popularly known as Subhash Chandra Bose Park, the park spread over 11.5 acres and located next to Ernakulam boat jetty and opposite to Maharaja’s College. The park is virtually a green oasis in the concrete jungle of Kochi city and is a favorite among kids as well as adults. As the park is located beside the backwaters, one can also enjoy the sight of passing ships from around the world entering and leaving Cochin Port. Being among the few well-maintained parks under the state government, Subhash Park is ideal for family outings.
This magnificent park has recently been given a massive renovation and is the best park in Kochi now. Ornamental lighting, musical walkways, and picturesque landscaping attract quite a decent crowd. According to history, in 1930, students from the Maharaja’s College protested against the Kochi Kingdom at this park and were violently suppressed. This is also a place where the movement to unite Kochi and Travancore into Kerala was launched. The park is named after the revolutionary Subhash Chandra Bose.

With the services of Kochi Metro that are being extended to Thykoodam, Subhash Park and other attractions nearby have become more accessible to visitors. For a trouble-free trip, visitors can take the metro from any station between Aluva and Thykoodam and can get down at Maharajas Ground stop. From there, they can take an auto-rickshaw, which would drop them in front of Subhash Park for a fare of just Rs 30. Subhash Park is also located at a walking distance from Ernakulam Junction (South) railway station. One can also catch the bus from the nearest bus stop- District Court Bus Stop to reach the park.

Visitors can visit this park between 10:00 am to 09:00 pm. The best timings to visit Subhash Park are from 8 am-11 am in the morning or 5 pm-7 pm in the evening. The lighting and the music in the evening in an excellent setting here and surely a must-visit place during weekends. Entry charge for Subhash Park is nil but for the entry to Children’s Park, visitors have to pay nominal charges.
