Gurdaspur is a major city in Punjab. It was named after Mahant Guriyaji, the person that founded Gurdaspur. After the partition that gave birth to Pakistan, the future of Gurdaspur was jeopardized and finally the conclusion came to integrate the city into the Indian subcontinent.
Gurdaspur is located in northern side of Punjab and has a total area of 2610 sq. km. It is among the closest rural settlements that share their borders with Pakistan. The major portion of land is a meadow with uneven terrains. The river Beas feeds the terrains of Gurdaspur. The climate of the place can be classified as moderate and experiences 3 major seasons. The average temperature during summers remains 36°C and falls down drastically to an average of 14°C in winters. Also, 2700 mm rainfall is received during the rainy season that is ample for a meadow like Gurdaspur.
