Sri Venkatachalpathy Temple is located in Trivandrum and is also known as Srinivasor Kovil. History
The deity of the temple is Venkatchalpathy. It has been said that the temple was built by Shri Ranga Iyengar of Veeravanallur, who saw the idol in a pond near his house around 100 years ago. He installed the idol and it is also considered that the eldest son in Iyengar’s family has been the main priest of the temple and even in the administration. Daily rituals are carried out as per Vadakalai system.
Architecture
Venkatchalpathy Temple is classic example of Kerala’s temple Vastuvidya. It is faced towards the East with two Gopurams, one at east and other at West. There is a lot of pillars such as light pillars in the temple. At the centre of this temple is a square-shaped pillared hall, the outer wall of which is fixed with a gallery of oil lamps.
Festivals
The main festival of this temple is Vaikunta Ekadasi, Thiru Aadi, pooram, and Aadi Swathi, Janmasthami. During other festivals like Pongal, Deepavali, Vishu and Onam temple are decorated with lights and flowers. An attractive feature of the festival is the Garuda Vahanam, where the main deity placed on the idol of Garuda is taken out for the procession. It is usually taken out on all Saturdays of Purattashi month.
