Assam State Zoo is one of the famous tourist attractions in Assam. This site is located within the premises of Hengrabari Reserved Forest and attracts the tourists on a huge scale. It spreads over a total area of 175 hectares and is a place in one of its own kinds. Assam State Zoo is a home to different species of animals, birds, and reptiles.

There are many animals in this zoo. One can see the animals like the chimpanzee, spotted deer, leopard, elephant, rabbit, zebra, ostrich, rhino, kangaroo etc.
The one-horned rhinoceros is also bred here
The birds like the Indian peafowl, pelican, stork, crane, raven, owl etc. are also seen here

Watch Out!
No tourist is permitted to feed the animals in any manner. It is a punishable offense and a fine is imposed on offenders. There is a small botanical garden on the other side of Assam State Zoo. This garden is a place where visitors see the different flora like the medicinal plants and other herbs that grow only in Assam.
