Hassan is a city situated in Karnataka and is the district headquarters of Hassan district. Also referred as a town, Hassan city is located exactly 934 m above sea level. The weather in the city is very much similar to Bangalore. Founded by a chieftain, Channa Krishnappa Naik in 11^{th century, the city has been named after the Goddess "Hassanamba". Many also colloquially call it Karnataka’s temple-architectural capital. The average literacy rate in the country is 79% and 10% of the population in the city is under 6 years of age.}

The former Prime Minister of the country, Mr. H.D. Deve Gowda belonged to Hassan district. There are two main parties in the city namely, Janata Dal Secular (JDS) and Congress (INC).
