The Amer Palace is an important tourist attraction inside the Amber Fort. The fort is located a few kilometres from Jaipur and houses a number of other buildings. The palace was built by Raja Man Singh in 1600 AD. Raja Man Singh was a general in the army of the Mughal emperor Akbar. Apart from the palace there are many other important buildings inside the fort. Some of the other important places include Raj Mahal, Shila Mata Temple, Diwan-e-Am and Jai Mandir. Man Singh I, a Kachwaha ruler of Jaipur, and a military leader in the service of the Mughal Emperor Akbar, built the beautiful Amer Palace. The Amer Palace in Jaipur is situated within the Amer Fort. The Ganesh Pole, Jai Mandir, Sheesh Mahal and Sukh Niwas are structures of historical interest in this beautiful palace characterized by its luxury and splendor. The Palace was built to excel Mughal palaces with elements of both Rajput and Mughal architecture. The formal gardens, grand rooms and opulent design of the Amer Palace, makes it worth seeing on a visit to Jaipur. Some of the impressive structures that should not be missed on a tour of Amer Palace are the Sheesh Mahal - a brilliant hall of Mirrors, the Jai Mandir or "Temple of Victory" and the Sukh Niwas. The Sukh Niwas has an ingenious air conditioning system where channels of water are explosed the air. As the air wafts across it, it is cooled - providing relief to the courtiers in the Sukh Niwas, in the beautiful Amer Palace. The magnificent fort with its huge ramparts & watchtowers, overlooking the Delhi-Jaipur highway. It is believed to have been the capital of the "Minas", the original inhabitants of Rajasthan.
