Sakkarbaug Zoo is a widely visited destination in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is located in Junagadh and is a home to a wide variety of the wild animals. This zoo is also known by the name of Junagadh Zoo because it the 2nd oldest zoo in India and was established in 1863 by the Babi Nawabs. Initially, it provided a shelter to limited animals like the lion, deer, hare, and elephant but now, it is an abode to 700 mammalian species, 115 reptiles, and 200 hundred birds.

Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden holds a great importance among the people of Junagadh. This zoo is the 2nd oldest zoo in India and 4th biggest zoo in the country. It houses numerous wild animals like the black panther, lion, Bengal tiger, elephant, spotted deer, flying squirrel, monkey, hyena etc. In the previous years, it had 4-5 African cheetahs but all of them died due to different consequences. The zoo authorities took the necessary steps and cheetahs can be still seen in the zoo premises.
Apart from the animals, there are different birds like Malabar Pheasant, red-breast partridge, geese, swan, duck, and much more.

Watch Out!
You aren’t allowed to tease the wild animals or throw eatables at them. Since the zoo authorities take a proper care of the diet of wild animals, no visitor is allowed to offer food to them. If caught in the act, the person is penalized with a fine imposed on him.
