Swamithope Pathi is a center of worship in Ayyavazhi. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu who is worshiped here as Ayya Vaikundar. He emphasized on the worship of God without any discrimination. He used to do Satsang and people of both the genders and age groups used to join him. He lived in Swamithope and according to legends he once slept on the soil of Swamithope and made it holy. Since then, Ayya Vaikundar was worshiped by the people of Swamithope.
It Is Known For:-
1) The temple of Ayya Vaikundar, or Swamithope Pathi, is known for its enchanting architecture. It stands tall in the Dravidian style of architecture
2) The sanctum sanctorum of this shrine doesn't contain any idol. It just houses a painting of Lord Ayya Vaikundar and is placed with two oil-lamps, mirror, a seat, a rattan cane, and wooden slippers. The purpose of keeping these items is the belief of the devotees that the Lord arrives at this place, takes rest, and leaves in the Brahmamuhuratam
3) Vaikunda Avataram is a major festival that is celebrated here. It is observed as the day when Lord Ayya incarnated from the sea. The Great Masi Procession is a carried from Nagercoil to Swamithope. Jaggery is distributed as prasadam among all.
Best Time To Visit:-
Swamithope Pathi is a major pilgrimage site for the followers of Lord Ayya Vaikundar. Though it can be visited throughout the year, the best time for visiting it is on the occasion of Vaikunda Avataram festival. The whole village is decorated beautifully.
