Kappad is renowned as a beautiful beach near Kozhikode, where the Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama landed on 20 May 1498. His expedition established the permanent route for European merchants companies to India. Further along the path, India became a British colony till it gained sovereignty in 1947.
Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Kappad is an ideal beach holiday destination for relaxation. During high tide, the beach is about 30 meter wide and during low tide, water recedes a further 50 meters. As the gateway to Malabar Coast, Kappad is a pleasant stretch of rock-studded beach. A 800 year old temple is regarded as one of the prominent tourists' attractions here. An exciting feature of the beach is the rock that protrudes into the sea. The best time to enjoy a holiday at this beach is between December and March as the day temperature raises up to 33° C and night temperature goes down up to 23° C.
