History: The origin of Vellayani Lake is associated with a mythological story. As per famous legends, once a thirsty beggar approached a saint who was meditating in search of water. The saint wanted to give him water but his vessel was almost empty. He took the last few drops of water in his palm and threw them as far as he could chant a small prayer. The lake where the drops of the water fell turned into a lake, which is today known as Vellayani Lake.
