Kullu is a small hill station in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated on the banks of River Beas. This river creates a broad valley between Manali and Largi and is known as the Kullu Valley. It is a pleasant landscape with temples, magnificent hills and pine and deodar trees surrounding the valley.
Kullu is located in the valley created by River Beas, 40km away from Manali to the north. The small towns of Mandi and Bhuntar are to the south of Kullu. The elevation of this town is 1,278 m.
The hill station experiences extreme winters along with snow falls. The summers are moderate here and so is the monsoon period. October-November is a pleasant time to be here.
The nearest airport is 10km away at Bhuntar which is connected to large cities. The town is connected by road through NH1 and NH21. There are many private and government owned bus services towards Kullu or one can also hire cabs for your period of stay. Trains are not suitable for going to Kullu. The nearest broad gauge railhead is in Chandigarh and the narrow gauge railhead is 100 km away. One can easily travel through the town in local buses, hired cabs or rented bikes.
