Aymanam village is apparently the actual setting for the best selling book The God Of Small Things. It was written by Booker Prize author Arundhati Roy in the year 1997. Ever since the success of the book, the village has started attracting even more tourists.
The name of the village comes from two words Ay meaning five and Vanam meaning forest. Hence, the actual meaning of Aymanam is five forests. According to the traditions of the place, these five forests were namely, Vattakkadu, Thuruthikkadu, Vallyakadu, Moolakkadu and Mekkadu. However, these five forests no longer exist in the area and in place of them, one can only find snake groves in the area.
