Dholavira is a name that many people have heard and read about. It is an archaeological site situated in Kutch district of Gujarat. Dholavira is the place that contains the remains of the Indus Valley Civilization. It is the fifth largest of the 8 major Harappan sites. Under excavation since 1990, a lot of artifacts and other things have been discovered that have unfolded the mysteries of the earliest human inhabitance in the state of Gujarat.

1) As per the archaeological findings and their history, Dholavira was a settlement of the in the bygone times in the Indus Valley Civilization. It was occupied by the humans in the previous eras but was gradually abandoned due to different reasons.
2) The settlement was constructed in the geometrical plan and had proper gates, canal system, wells, streets, open yards etc.
3) The step-well and bath system was also found in the excavations and can be seen at this site.
4) Apart from all this, other findings include the seal making equipment, utensils, weapons, and coins.
5) It is also said that the invention of the wheel was done in Dholavira.
Best Time To Visit:-
Dholavira welcomes its guests throughout the year. Archaeologists, historians, and tourists visit this site on a huge scale. Though it can be visited in any season, the best time is considered between October-March. The weather is pleasant during this period.

Dholavira is a great place of interest in Kutch. Since it is a historical site of national interest, no visitor is allowed to dump any scrap or leftovers. Offenders are penalized with a heavy fine.
