Kutch Bustard Sanctuary is a famous tourist destination in the Indian state of Gujarat. This sanctuary was established in the year 1992 for the conservation of the great Indian bustard, the heaviest flying bird. It is locally called as ‘Ghorad’ and is scheduled in the Red Data List of Indian Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This sanctuary is visited by countless visitors throughout the year.
It Is Known For:-
1) Kutch Bustard Sanctuary is the smallest sanctuary in India. It covers a total area of 501 acres.
2) There are three species of the bustard that are found here. They are known as the Great Indian Bustard, Lesser Florican, and Houbara Bustard.
3) Apart from bustards, the fauna of this sanctuary includes the names of kala teetar, common crane, quail, lark, bush chat, imperial eagle etc.
4) It is a home to the animals like the fox, hyena, wolf, caracal, chinkara etc.
Best Time To Visit:-
Excluding the summers, every season is considered as appropriate for visiting Kutch Bustard Sanctuary. Late monsoon and winter are the best seasons for visiting this sanctuary and meet the different mammalian species.
Watch Out!
Hunting and feeding the animals is strictly prohibited. If you are carrying any ammo, even licensed, it will be confiscated if not submitted. Luring the animals and birds by throwing food towards them is not permitted and thus, these rules should be followed by everyone.

Jakhau is the nearest city to Kutch Bustard Sanctuary. It is well-connected via all major highways, airways, and railways that connect it with the rest of Gujarat. Express trains, flights, and state-run buses are available for commuting from different cities of Gujarat. Commuting to & from different places in Jakhau can be done via local transit.
