Know Kutch Desert Wild Life Sanctuary! Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary was established in the year 1986, so as to protect the wildlife of the area. The sanctuary covers a vast tract of land i.e. around 7506.22square.kilometers and is reckoned as the largest sanctuary in Gujarat. Some parts of the sanctuary spread over the Great Rann of Kutch. The place is very dry and hot but still it provides shelter to a large number of wild animals.
Fauna- The sanctuary is a home to various species of animals like hyenas, wolves, foxes, black buck, nilgai, chinkaras and many more. The chief attraction of the sanctuary is the Asiatic wild ass, which is found only here in India.
Avifauna- Various species of birds can be seen here. The most common one is the flamingos, which are available here in various colors. In addition to it, there are various other birds like white pelican, great Indian bustard, painted sandgrouse, raptors, tawny eagles, stolzca's bushcat, steppe eagle, water-fowls and many more.
