Constructed in the Tamil Style of architecture and overlooking the Bay of Bengal, Shore Temple is a famous tourist attraction in Mahabalipuram. It is an 8th-century marvel that is built using the granite during the rule of Pallavas. Also, it has served as a famous port during the rule of Pallavas. The Chola clan came to power after defeating Pallavas in a battle and took control over making further constructions. Today, this entire temple complex is a famous tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mahabalipuram.
It Is Known For:-
1) The entire complex of Shore Temple comprises three temples. Two of these temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva and the third one enshrines a reclining idol of Lord Vishnu
2) The two shrines of Lord Shiva depict him differently. In one shrine, he’s worshiped in the form of a Shiva Linga, whereas, he is worshiped along with this entire family in the second temple
3) Lord Vishnu is depicted in a reclining on Adishesha, the serpent, and riding Garuda while saving the elephant from a crocodile
