Known by the name of Adivaraha Cave Temple, Varaha Cave Temple is a prehistoric Hindu temple in Mahabalipuram. This temple is a remarkable example of the ancient stone-cut architecture practiced in the 7th century. This shrine is dedicated to Lord Varaha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu in the form of boar lifting Bhudevi or Mother Earth on his tusks. Varaha Cave Temple draws hundreds of tourists, including the foreign nationals.

1) Varaha Cave Temple is an amazing example of the Pallava style of architecture. The temple walls have serpentine carvings done on them
2) The carvings on the walls depict the Varaha form of Lord Vishnu lifting Mother Earth on one wall
3) The other walls of the temple have the Hindu Gods like Goddess Gajalakshmi, Goddess Durga killing Mahishasura, Lord Krishna's universal form, Lord Vishnu resting on Adishesha etc.
4) An entire wall panel is dedicated to the carvings of Lord Shiva where his various forms are carved on the wall
