Location Mussoorie is situated 38 Km from Dehradun, capital of Uttaranchal. About Mussoorie Mussoorie is also called as 'Queen of Hillstations', due to its enchanting beauty and mesmerising aura. The small town is situated at 2500 M of altitude, and makes a perfect summer resort. Mussoorie was founded by Captain Young of the British army, when he was influenced by the beauty of this place and made his residence here. This marked the foundation of a hill station called Mussoorie. The name, Mussoorie, is derived from name of plant, 'Munsoor', which were found in abundance here. After its discovery, this hill station gradually developed as a center of education, business and tourism. Mussoorie is an excellent respite for tourists and people who want relief from the hot sultry conditions. Nature has gifted Musoorie everything which makes a place beautiful. Places of Attractions Gunhill Gun Hill is one of the highest peaks of Mussoorie. The hilltop offers a panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges namely Bunderpunch, Srikantha, Pithwara and Gangotri Group. During British era, a Gun mounted on this top was fired at mid-day to inform about the time and ask people to adjust their watches.
It can be reached by the Ropeway ride whose distance is 400 M or by the bridle path which forks-off from the Court, and takes about twenty minutes. Kempty Waterfall The Kempty waterfall is one of most beautiful falls of Uttaranchal. The site is 15 Km from Mussoorie. It has a distinction of being the biggest and prettiest waterfall located in a beautiful valley, surrounded by high mountains. Municipal Garden It is picnic spot having a beautiful garden and an artificial mini lake with boating facility.
It is located at a distance of 3 Km from the Mall road. Camel Back Road This road begins from the Rink at Kulri Bazar and terminates at Library Bazar, stretching over a distance of 3 Km. The road is named after the Camel rock, which has a life like resemblance with a camel's hump. Horse riding and walking during evening is a memorable experience as it offers a scenic sunset view in the Himalayas. Bhatta Falls The Bhatta falls are 7 Km from Mussoorie on Mussoorie-Dehradun road near Bhatta Village. The fall has different ponds for bathing and water amusements and forms an ideal place for picnic. Sir George Everest House The place called Park Estate, where building & laboratory of first Surveyor General of India Sir George Everest is housed. Worlds highest peak, Mt. Everest, is named after him.
The place provides an enchanting view of Doon Valley on one side and view of Yamuna Valley & snow bound Himalayan ranges on the other.
