The Great Stupa

The Great Stupa is a marvelous tourist attraction in Nalanda. Situated in the complex of Nalanda University, this historical monument is ages old. It was erected by King Ashoka in the 3rd century as a tribute to Sariputra, a follower of Buddha. It is a pyramid-shaped stupa and visited by people on a huge scale.

The best time for visiting The Great Stupa of Nalanda is between the months of October-March. It is the apt time for exploring the ancient stupa and other places around it. Since the ancient university is active, tourists and visitors require a written permission for entering the site of The Great Stupa.
