History and architecture
Erected in the year 1892, this vintage monument is a perfect amalgamation of French and Irish architectural style design. The church initially was named as the Church of Our Lady but later the name was converted into the Catholic Church. It is believed that the church has been established in memory of a British captain. The church has a cemetery attached to it devoted to the lost brave British soldiers. The tombstones here dates back to 1859, World War I and World War II.
The facade of the church may look a bit worn out but the internal areas of this building are so beautifully made that there was no requirement for renovation to date. The beautiful Belgium stained glass windows of this ancient church are well maintained and add a rare attraction to the building. Standing strong as a great example of colonial architecture and art, the Catholic Church should be in your ‘must visit’ list on your trip to Pachmarhi.
