Raj Bhawan is a major tourist attraction in the city of Raigad. It is the royal court of Shivaji from where the entire Maratha Empire was administered by him. Though it has been transformed into a modern palatial building, it still has the old-world charm atop it. On the top of this building is a small enclosed fortress and as an individual descends the building, he can come across various rooms and corridors.
It Is Known For:-
1) Raj Bhawan is known for having 1,450 steps. It is said that it took 3 hours if it was climbed on foot and to reduce the hassle, lifts have been installed in the building.
2) It has a royal bath that was used by the royal family members for bathing.
3) It also houses the prominent attractions like Rameshwar Mandir, Wagh Darwaja, Takmak Tok, Bara Tanki, and grenades depot.
4) Takmak Tok is famous because all criminals were executed at this site. One can still see the blood stains on the walls. Bara Tanki is a collection of 12 water reservoirs, and the grenade depot was the place where the ammo was stored.
