The Banganga Fair is very famous in Rajasthan as it is held near a stream that is 11 km away from Bairath town of Jaipur district. Bairath is also situated 85 km away from Jaipur city. The legendry story about the rivulet is that it was presumed to be created by Arjuna one among the Mythical Pandavas. It is told that an arrow was shot by him to quench the thirst of Bhishma Pitamah.
There is much for people to enjoy in Banganga Fair such as bath in that stream and worshipping at holy place. This ritual is considered very much auspicious by the Hindus. Apart from pilgrim, traders also find good opportunity to sell their precious goods. There are a number of goods that are available in plenty in this fair be it rural ornaments, toys, household items.
The fair is conducted well and kids have good opportunity out there to enjoy on merry-go-rounds and giant wheels. The Gogaji Fair conducted in Rajasthan is very famous and is dedicated to a hero of the local area who was known as Goga Veer by Hindus and Jahar Peer by Muslims.
The fair is organized at the memorial of Gogaji that is situated in Goga Medi that is situated about 359 km away from Jaipur. Gogaji has a special place in the heart of the people in terms of faith, he is considered Snake God and one can see the spectacular scene of the god sitting on blue horse and a white snake is around his neck. The tourists have very good opportunity to visit the Kapil Muni Fair that is the largest fair of Bikaner. This fair is held on the auspicious occasion of kartik Poornima at kolayat that is about 50 km south- west of the town of Bikaner. The place was originally named after sage kapil as kapilayatan as it was believed that he meditated there for redemption of humankind.
There is this reference in the sacred puranas, also it was considered that the sage decended from Lord Brahma. Karni Mata Fair is held twice in a year in Deshnok which is a town situated near Nokha. The fair is well dedicated to karni Mata who was an ascetic woman; she contributed greatly towards the upliftment of the oppressed people. She was considered to carry some supernatural powers. Presently she is worshipped as goddess by many people. Also Charans and rulers of Bikaner regarded her as their patron deity.
One of the most visited destinations for the pilgrims in Rajasthan Khatu Shyamji Fair is organized in Shyamji Temple. It is situated 48 km away from Sikar district that is 115 km from Jaipur. The fair also adds to attract a large number of devotees to the Shyamji temple. Often this fair lasts for a time period of three days and that too in February or March months of the year.
The fair that lasts through Phalgun Sudi Dashmi till Dwadashi has a high capability to attract large number of people. Again the Mahabharata legend is related to this temple. The story that is popular is that a grandson of Bhima, one among the Pandavas requested Lord Krishna to let him take part in the war. But Krishna realizing the fact that his might was sure to disbalance the war ending it without any justice to the victim didn’t allow him to enter the war.
