Jaigad Fort is a historical and semi-ruined monument fort in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. It was built in the 16th century by the rulers of Bijapur but soon, it was under the siege of the Naiks. After a prolonged rule of the Naik clan, the British powers captured the fort and made it an important port for the trade. At present, it is a famous tourist attraction and draws numerous tourists from different parts of Maharashtra.
It Is Known For:-
1) Jaigad Fort is known for its architecture. It was erected in the Maratha style of architecture and covers 13 acres of land and stands on an elevated cliff 20 feet above the sea level.
2) Near this fort, the seaport of Jaigad is also located and is said to be older than the fort. It is one of the oldest seaports on the Western Coast of India.
3) This fort houses the palace of Kanhoji Angre and a temple of Lord Vinayaka.
4) Despite being in a remnant position, the fort of Jaigad attracts couples for a pre-wedding photoshoot.
