Initially known as a game sanctuary, Mahananda Weir Wildlife Sanctuary is a forest reserve in Darjeeling. It is located in the foothills of the mighty Himalayas and its terrains are fed by the waters of the river Teesta. Blessed with the lush green surroundings, this wildlife sanctuary was established to protect the Indian bison and the royal Bengal tiger. Today, it is visited by a large number of tourists.

3) This sanctuary is also a home to a distinguished avifauna that includes the roller bird, hornbill, swallow, mynah, and much more. Some migratory birds also arrive from Central Asia to Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary
