Shivalik Fossil Park

Shivalik Fossil Park, Nahan, also known as Suketi Fossil Park, is one of the most significant fossil parks, which is situated on the land of Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district. One of the most interesting facts about Shivalik Fossil Park is that it is Asia’s forst park to be established at the same area where the actual fossils were unearthed. The Shivalik Fossil Park, Nahan has a wide gathering of vertebrate fossils s well as skeletons which are dated long long back to the prehistoric times.

Located at a distance of 21 kilometres from Nahan, it is worth mentioning that Suketi Fossil Park is the largest fossil park of the entire Asia section. It is also to be noted here that Shivalik Fossil Park, Nahan, is located on the banks of the Markanda River and in the upper and middle Shivaliks. The fossil park is bestowed with soft sandstone and clay rocks, and is widely known for its open-air demonstration of six life-sized models of extinct mammals in fibreglass.
