Gaurisagar Tank is a renowned tourist attraction in Assam. It is located 12 km from Sivasagar town and was constructed 200 years ago. The tank is huge and 3 temples of the Hindu Goddess Durga stand near it. The main temple enshrines Goddess Durga, whereas, the other temples enshrine her other forms. Queen Phuleshwari Devi was the reigning queen during that time. She was a devoted follower of Sakta Hinduism and tried to make it the state religion.

No animal sacrifice is allowed in any of the three temples near Gaurisagar Tank. The gruesome practice has been stopped permanently after Moamaria rebellion. Make sure no one tries to trick you into such acts.
During Bihu and Navaratri, the area around this tank is decorated beautifully. Different stalls for food and other handmade products like baskets and toys etc. are set up. Do not forget visiting the local marketplace and purchasing souvenirs.
