It is a famous brewery in the city of Solan and is known for manufacturing the first ever beer of India, The Lion Beer. It was founded by Edward Abraham Dyer in the year 1855. After the independence of the country, Mr. Edward traveled to Shimla and set up the branch of Mohan Meakin Brewery. Presently, this brewery has its headquarters in Uttar Pradesh and other branches in Shimla, Ooty, Chandigarh, Darjeeling, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
Why Is It Famous?
The sole reason for Mohan Brewery for its fame is its status as India’s first brewery. However, it wasn’t an Indian brewery but the first brewery in India that manufactured the alcoholic beverages like the beer, rum, and whiskey.
The legacy of this brewery halted for a while in India but Mr. Narendar Mohan, a wealthy merchant, collected funds and traveled to London. He held a major stake in the Meakin Brewery and renamed it as Mohan Meakin. After a hiatus, the company emanated as India’s leading brewery that manufactures the alcoholic drinks like the Old Monk, Lion, Diplomat Deluxe, Colonel’s Special, Kaplanski Vodka etc.
