Mahabhairab Temple aka Mahabhairav Temple needs no special introduction. It is a famous Hindu temple in Tezpur city of Assam. It is a historic temple that enshrines Lord Shiva. The temple is beautifully constructed structure in Tezpur. Lord Shiva is worshiped here in the form of a Shivalinga. The Shivalinga installed in the sanctum is called Mahabhairab Shivalinga. 1) Mahabhairab Temple is a historical shrine in Tezpur. It is said that Banasura constructed this temple in the honor of Lord Shiva using stones

3) According to another myth, Salasthambha dynasty ruler constructed this temple. During the then time, Salasthambas were known for carving the boulders
4) The Ahoms remodeled the older structure. They used polished marble for the construction
5) The craftsmen from all over Assam were hired to carve the temple premises
6) The temple was heavily damaged many times due to the natural calamities. The present-day structure of the temple was built in 20th century by an ascetic called Naga Baba
