Built across the Chalakudy River, the Thumboormuzhi check dam provides water for irrigation purposes. From here, a portion of the water from the river splits into two canals (Edathukara canal and the Valathukara canal), which are the backbone of the irrigation for the villages located near to this place. In the summer days, almost the whole of the river water is directed towards the canals and the river bed is visible clearly.
