Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary

Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the famous tourists’ attractions in Assam. It is the sole rainforest in Assam and covers a vast space in the districts of Tinsukia and Dibrugarh. It spans a total area of 111.19 sq. km. and was declared a sanctuary in the year 2004 by the state government. The extensions of this wildlife park are also found in Tirap & Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh. This extended area serves as an elephant reserve.

- Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary is the only rainforest in Assam
- Till 2003, it was an ordinary rainforest but is enjoying the status of a wildlife sanctuary
- The sanctuary is a home to different animals like the hoolock gibbon, macaque, elephant, leopard, gaur, black bear, leopard cat, mongoose, deer etc.
- Apart from animals, this sanctuary also provides a shelter to various reptiles like a snake and chameleon. The avifauna of the sanctuary includes the stork, kingfisher, slender-billed vulture, duck etc.
- Since Dehing Wildlife Sanctuary is a rainforest, it receives rainfall for a major part of the year
