Virinjipuram Shiva temple is more than 1000 years old that exists in Vellore. It is a main pilgrimage site in Tamil Nadu, especially for the Shaivaite sect. The original name of this temple is Margabandhu Virinjipuram Temple. The presiding deity, Lord Shiva, is worshiped inside the temple in the form of a linga. According to the folklore, to find out who is the superior among the holy trinity, Lord Shiva appeared in the form of a cosmic lingam. Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu had to find out the end. Both were unable to find the end but Lord Brahma lied. He was cursed by Lord Shiva and was born as a mortal on Earth who served in this temple.
