Ragunan Zoo is situated in Pasar Minggu in South Jakarta. The Indonesian zoo stretches over 140-hectare (350-acre) area and shelters 270 species of animals and 171 species of flora. The zoo was opened for public in the year 1966.

Reptiles: There are two terrariums / enclosures where the visitors can spot many snakes including the poisonous ones. To name a few snakes, these are Asian reticulated phytons, king cobras, albino pythons etc. The enclosures are also home to reptiles like Komodo dragons sheltered in different compounds. One can also see crocodiles, turtles and gavials in the zoo.
Mammals: The zoo is home to mammals like langurs, gibbons, macaques, gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans etc. In the small compounds, visitors can spot myriad of raccoons, Javan porcupines, binturongs, Asian Palm Civets, beavers, Java Mouse-deer and bats. Visitors wishing to see large cats like tigers, lions and leopards can also make visit to the zoo.
Birds: There is a splendid pool sprawling near the entrance of the zoo. The pool is dwelled by many beautiful Australian Pelicans, swans, and ducks. In various large aviaries and small bird cages, one can also see birds such as Javan Peafowl, Indian Peafowl, Javan Hawk-eagle, brahminy kite, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Crested Serpent-eagle, Bali Starling etc.
The other attractions of the zoo are Sunday elephant rides, boat rides in Ragunan Lake, pony cart rides etc. Visitors can also have quick bites or enjoy belly filling meals at the restaurant in the zoo. The picnic shelters are another highlight of the zoo.
