It is the most popular Buddhist region and monastery, which is located in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region, Myanmar. It is the second largest gigantic standing Buddha statue in the planet. This place contain thousands of Buddha statues and Bo trees including gigantic reclining Buddha statue, Aung Sakkya Pagoda and many other huge Buddha images in the Sasana region.
History
On 5th May 1960, Maha Bodhi Ta Htaung Sayadaw Ven Nãrada established Maha Bodhi Ta Htaung. He planted thousands of Bo trees that hold religious significance for Buddhists, as it is the tree under which Buddha achieved enlightenment. The monastery becomes popular all over the world because of the largest amount of Bodh trees that are present in Maha Bodhi Ta Htaung. Many famous statues are present in the monastery that includes Lay Kyun Sakkya Standing Buddha statue and Reclining Buddha Image. Lay Kyun Sakkya Standing Buddha Statue was constructed in 1995. This statue is 129m high with 31 floors and is one of the largest Buddha in the world. On 8 January 1991, Reclining Buddha Statue was constructed which is 101m in length and 18m in width. In addition, Aung Sakkya Pagoda was built in 1979, which is similar to Shwedagon pagoda built in Yangon.
