At a distance of about 20km from the capital city, lies Bhaktapur- the City of Devotees, and that it truly is. Dotted with temples, pagodas and shrines all across its landscape, this is one of the three royal cities in the Kathmandu Valley, next to Kathmandu and Patan. The natives still refer to it with its ancient names, Bhadgaon and Khwopa. However, the city has also been given several titles, such as, City of Culture, Living Heritage, Nepal's Cultural Gem and An Open Museum. These labels are in light of the fact that the culture of Bhaktapur is still very much rooted in its heritage.
Coming here from any other city is a refreshing experience, away from the traffic and pollution. The city’s culture is always on display on its squares and the roadsides, where artisans perform their individual skills and the lifestyle of Newari community is visible in the social gatherings at every nook and corner.
