The capital and the only metropolitan city of Nepal, Kathmandu is nestled in the Kathmandu Valley with four majestic mountains encircling it. This kind of setting has blessed the city with immense natural beauty, complemented by the urban developments, which make it a place worth visiting. Another feature that attracts tourists to this valley is the rich cultural heritage, spanning over almost 2000 years. According to UNESCO, the heritage sites in Kathmandu Valley make up seven Monument Zones.   Tourism of this city is mainly centered on places of religious significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. The second major chunk of the travel world is shared by the sightseeing tours and adventure sports. Kathmandu serves as the threshold for thrill in other parts of the country. While here, one can go for trekking, hiking, bungee jumping and rafting. Some tourists also come here for recreational yoga courses, held in various private and public institutes.

Bhaktapur Travel Guide

Bhaktapur

At a distance of about 20km from the capital city, lies Bhaktapur- the City of Devotees, and that it truly is. Dotted with temples, pagodas and shrines all across its landscape, this is one of the three royal cities in the Kathmandu Valley, next to Kathmandu and Patan. The natives still refer to it with its ancient names, Bhadgaon and Khwopa. However, the city has also been given several titles, such as, City of Culture, Living Heritage, Nepal's Cultural Gem and An Open Museum. These labels are in light of the fact that the culture of Bhaktapur is still very much rooted in its heritage.   Coming here from any other city is a refreshing experience, away from the traffic and pollution. The city’s culture is always on display on its squares and the roadsides, where artisans perform their individual skills and the lifestyle of Newari community is visible in the social gatherings at every nook and corner.

Patan Travel Guide

Patan

Patan is the last one amongst the three royal cities of the Kathmandu Valley, situated only 5 kilometers from the capital, across river Bagmati. For the connoisseurs of fine art and history, the city serves as a paradise with its ever-blooming handicraft industry and traditional lifestyle. Although, it is categorized as a sub-metropolitan city, you will still have the sense of being in the ancient Nepal, owing to the old-style architecture. Officially the name is Lalitpur (City of Beauty), and is also called by its Newari name, Yala.   Most travelers coming to Kathmandu take a one-day trip to Patan; however, an overnight stay in the city will introduce you to the charming beauty of the Durbar Square during the evening.
