Archaeological Museum
Recommended Length of Stay: 1-2 Hours
Location: Sarnath, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India
Built in 1910, the Sarnath Archaeological Museum houses some treasures of Indian Buddhist art, including more than 300 pictures. Entering through the gate, in the hall on the left, there is a statue of the Falun that was created in the 5th century AD. The whole painting vividly expresses the calmness, confidence and loving-kindness of the Buddha when he preaches the Dharma. Another noteworthy place in the museum is the lion statue at the top of the Ashoka stone pillar. Although it has been destroyed, the bottom is still in its original location. The original column was more than 10 meters high, and the head was carved with a four-sided lion statue, which is now used as the pattern of the national emblem of India. The main part of this column (more than 2 meters) is also currently preserved in the museum.

This is a lively river altar on the banks of the Ganges River in Varanasi. It is the place where the Great Brahma performs the ten-horse sacrifice and has a very sacred religious status. From the small pier here, you can take a boat tour of the Ganges River, which is especially spectacular at sunset. It consists of five large stone platforms, the main platform in the middle is very large, and there are two small ones on each side. There are huge crowds of people here every night for the ceremonial activities, among which the PUJA ceremony is held on a large scale. As night fell, priests dressed in yellow silk vestments cleaned and arranged the instruments and began the ritual of the day. Every Hindu solemnly sang chants, which was their response to the river god. There are many vendors selling flowers, tikka, rosary and other religious items on the steps of the Ghat, and believers, beggars and tourists from all over the world gather here.

Assi ghat

The Asi Ghat is located at the confluence of the Ganges and Asi rivers. The sunrise on the other side of the river seen from the Asi Ghat is very beautiful, so many people come here to bathe in the morning. Walking into the Asi Ghat, you can see that there is an endless stream of parades from all walks of life. There is no rank difference here, all people are the same, wash their souls in the holy river. There is a flower shop on the road, and the front of the shop is full of beggars, begging for food from passersby. There are mothers with malnourished children, young children and dying old people. Occasionally someone will give them some money and food. Perhaps for the giver, it is a matter of virtue. Go up and down the stone steps of the Asi Ghat into the water. The Ganges River in front of us surpasses everything in human beings, and flows so silently. The crimson sun dyed the entire river red. It rises slowly, giving light first to those who bathe, and then to the whole of humanity. It is like reincarnation without beginning and end, telling people the passage of time.
