You will be collected from your accommodation by our air-conditioned, purpose built 4WD vehicle. You will travel north to Cape Tribulation along a spectacular coastline hugging two World Heritage areas, the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforest. This route is known as The Great Barrier Reef Drive and it will allow you to experience the world’s oldest continuously growing rainforest, which is renowned for its amazing diversity of plant and animal life.
Enjoy the magic of the rainforest as you indulge on tasty homemade scones and sip on fresh local Daintree Tea or coffee at the Heritage Lodge. Continue on crossing rivers and climbing mountain ranges on the 4WD only Bloomfield Track. Your experienced guide will enlighten you with incredible stories and history as your journey takes you through some of the most incredible scenery in the country.
Your next stop will be the Aboriginal community of Wujal Wujal via the Bobby and Jacky Ball Bloomfield River Bridge, which was completed in late 2014. You will have the opportunity to visit the Bana Yirriji Art and Cultural Centre.
Continuing north, we stop for lunch at Bloom’s Cafe before a visit to one of Queensland’s landmark pubs. Built in 1875 of timber and iron, The infamous Lion’s Den Hotel includes a museum, where they have on display a collection of unique prospector artefacts. Just a short distance further, you will see the unique geological oddity known as Black Mountain. Surrounded in mystery and spoken of by ancient Aboriginal legends, stop to observe this fascinating site.
Visit the top of Grassy Hill, where you will enjoy the panoramic vista of the Endeavour River, Coral Sea and Cooktown. Have your camera ready because the views are spectacular!
You will then have up to two hours of free time to explore historic Cooktown, visit the World Class James Cook Museum, or stroll the self-guided heritage walk along main street and the shores of the Endeavour River. At 4.30pm, you will be transferred to the Cooktown Airport for a 45 minute return flight to Cairns along the scenic Daintree Coast and the Great Barrier Reef with Hinterland Aviation Flight departs Cooktown at 5.45pm – Arrive Cairns 6.30pm @ Cairns General Aviation Terminal, Hangar 7, Tom McDonald Drive
